Letter to the Editor
National Volunteer Week:  April 18^th – 24^th

The theme of National Volunteer Week 2010 is “Celebrating People in Action.” It’s a time set aside each year that honors those who dedicate themselves to taking action and bettering their communities. It’s also about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities — to put themselves at the center of social change.

At the American Red Cross, Tampa Bay Chapter, we take this week to say Thank You.  Our volunteers help people affected by disasters, serve members of the military and their families, and promote health and safety in our community every single day.  Without volunteers, the American Red Cross could not complete its mission to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. 

If you are reading this and you are a Red Cross volunteer, thank you for the service you have given to your community!  I hope you know how much we appreciate you.  Happy National Volunteer Week!  And if you are not yet a Red Cross volunteer, you can find your local chapter on www.redcross.org to explore volunteer opportunities.
